Volunteerism fosters a sense of community and provides much needed assistance to non-profits. Many people do not volunteer because they are unaware of their options or feel they do not have the time. The 2005 Metro Denver Volunteer-a-thon will inform the public that volunteering is fun and does not necessarily require an extensive time commitment.

What: A television special that promotes volunteerism

When: The show will air LIVE on April 20th from 6pm - 10pm on your local government cable Channel 8. It will then be rebroadcast during the weekend.

Who: The show will be hosted by:

  • Mike Kabjian, local entrepreneur and founder of the Community Buzz
  • Jim Rettew, CU professor and former city council candidate
Where: You local government cable Channel 8.

Goal: To expand the base of enthusiastic volunteers in the Denver Metro area by encouraging residents and companies to collectively pledge 500,000 volunteer hours.

Format: The program will profile approximately 20 local non-profits. A volunteer from each non-profit will be interviewed live in the studio. These interviews will be supplemented by previously filmed 'on-location' footage that will showcase the activities of the non-profit. The program will also feature performances by local musicians and pledge challenges. Viewers can pledge hours via telephone or website.

Promotion: A PR campaign is currently underway. The event will be promoted through Denver Channel 7, the Denver Post and various local radio stations.
